Directions For Use

Abilar® 10% Resin Salve is manufactured from refined resin of Norway spruce from Finnish Lapland. Resinsalves have been used since the antiquity in traditional Finnish folk medicine as a self-treatment of various skin problems. The product provides a protective layer that enhances the healing of the wound and has strong inhibiting influence against bacteria and certainfungi and promotes the re-epithelization of the skin. Abilar® 10% Resin Salve is manufactured by mixing the resin with a well-defined, formulated and homogeneous salve base. Efficacy and quality of the product are controlled by sampling of each production batch. The product is certified by the EU Notified Body 0537. The product is registered by the EU authorities as a medical device, product class llb in the EU classification for medical devices.

Active Ingredients

Refined natural resin of Norway spruce (Picea abies). The content of the resin in the final product is 10% of the total weight. The salve has a distinct scent of resinand has a homogeneous brown colour.

Other Ingredients

Petrolatum, liquid paraffin, denatured alcohol, micro-crystalline wax, sorbitane oleate, white wax, hydrogenated castor oil, stearic acid.

Treatment Areas

The salve is used to promote the healing of any infected and un-infected cuts, sores, cracks, ulcers and burns in human skin.

Instructions For Use

The affected area should, if possible, be washed and cleaned before the application of Abilar® 10% Resin Salve. The salve can be applied directly onto the wound or the salve is spread between pieces of elastic gauze. This gauze is, thereafter, fixed onto the wound area. The wound is protected with breathable elastic gauze. The gauze containing the salve is changed and the salve is applied onto the wound daily or every other day. The salve is not recommended to be applied onto mucous membranes, eyes or mouth, or to be used internally.

Abilar Application Tips:

  • Apply directly to wound bed keeping inside wound edges to avoid masceration.
  • Apply non adherent dressing above.
  • For a cavity wound apply to absorbant ribbon before application.
  • Only needs a thin application – 1ml thickness max.

Storage

Store the product in a clean place at room temperature. The shelf life of the product is 5 years and the expiry date is printed in the tube.

Pregnancy and Lactation

The salve may not be used during pregnancy and lactation. There is no information about possible adverse effects during pregnancy and lactation.

Interactions

No clinically significant interactions are known.

Driving

The usage of salve does not affect the ability to drive or the ability to use machines.

Side effects

The salve contains substances that may cause allergic skin reactions (allergic contact dermatitis) in persons who are resin-sensitive. No other contraindications are known. If you are uncertainas to whether you are sensitive to natural resins or not, you should make the first application of Abilar® 10% Resin Salve on a small skinarea. Ifthis causes allergic symptoms (itching,redness,swelling, blisters, etc) within 3 days, you cannot use the salve. If allergic symptoms appear during the course of the treatment, the use of Abilar® 10% Resin Salve must be discontinued immediately and other therapy should be instituted. If needed,consult a physician.
